About Ian

I’m an Assistant Professor at Tennessee State University, an HBCU in Nashville, Tennessee. I earned my Ph.D. in political science at the University of Colorado, Boulder with specialization in American politics and research methods. Between 2021-2023, I was Postdoctoral Civic Engagement Fellow at The Brennan Center for Justice in NYC.

My research and teaching interests include American political behavior, political psychology, race and voting rights, and misinformation. I am especially dedicated to science communication, understanding inclusion in public life, and effective teaching of quantitative research methods at the undergraduate level. My recent work appears in Political Behavior and The Journal of Politics (conditionally accepted version) .

In my free time, you can find me cycling, baking (mostly chocolate based) desserts, listening to podcasts, and playing with my Airedale Terrier (Rory).
